Terms of Service

Last updated 26 September 2026

These terms govern your use of the Cahoots app and the pages on cahoots.family. By creating an account you agree to them.

1. Who may use Cahoots

You must be 18 or older to create an account. Cahoots is designed for a household to share, and it assumes the people in a circle know and trust one another.

Children do not have accounts. A profile you create for a child is a record you control, and you are responsible for what you put in it.

2. Your account and your circle

3. Your content

What you put into Cahoots is yours. We claim no ownership of it.

You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, show it to the people in your circle you have shared it with, back it up, transmit it to the providers listed in the Privacy Policy, and process it to produce the suggestions you asked for. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups that age out on their own schedule.

You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload — including documents that mention other people, and photos of children.

4. What the AI does, and what it does not

Cahoots reads what you capture and proposes events, tasks, and reminders.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Cahoots to break the law, to harass anyone, to store or share material you have no right to, to upload malware, to attempt to reach data belonging to another circle, to probe or overload the service, or to build a competing product from it. Do not use automated means to extract data from the service.

Links you share outside your circle are your responsibility: anyone holding such a link can see the single item it points to, until it expires or you revoke it.

6. Subscriptions and payment

If a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted. Paid features pause and your content stays readable.

7. Availability, and the fact that this is early

Cahoots is in active development and is currently distributed for testing. It may be unavailable, may lose functionality, and may change. We may modify or discontinue features. Where a change is significant and we can foresee it, we will try to give notice.

8. Ending it

You may stop using Cahoots and delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting an account or closing a circle has a 14-day grace period in which signing back in undoes it; after that it is removed.

We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms, that puts the service or other users at risk, or where we are required to. Where circumstances allow, we will tell you first.

9. Disclaimers

Cahoots is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any notification will be delivered.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of Cahoots — including anything arising from a missed appointment, a missed reminder, or an incorrect extraction.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to Cahoots is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from content you upload, from your breach of these terms, or from your misuse of the service.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Cahoots after that means you accept the new terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the state and federal courts located in Connecticut will have exclusive jurisdiction — except that either of us may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. Nothing here removes any consumer-protection right you have under the law where you live.
